INDIA VS NEW ZEALAND 3RD ODI HIGHLIGHTS | FULL SCORECARD
New Zealand one-day woes continued into a seventh straight game as the top order failed to survive the examination put forward by moist early-morning conditions. While the openers gifted away their wickets even before swing could cause them problems, the middle-order batsmen were remarkably unconvincing in playing the inswing that Zaheer Khan and Ashish Nehra extracted in the morning.It could have been worse for New Zealand if two appeals for plumb lbws against Kane Williamson and Scott Styris had been upheld when they were on 1 and 0. Zaheer was the unlucky bowler. Williamson fell after adding 20 further runs. Styris’ luck ran out too, not before a drop from Yusuf Pathan off Munaf Patel. Styris managed one more than Williamson.
Then Munaf came, and was allowed to bowl tight back of a length, just outside off, with slight movement either way. With the batsmen not looking to upset his style, Williamson’s dismissal just seemed a matter of time then.
Gautam Gambhir, who put New Zealand in, lacked the modern tendency of falling back on defence once the 15th over ends. In fact when he saw R Ashwin turn the ball, he put in Test-match fields for Styris and James Franklin, who hardly tried to score runs. The aggressive fields paid off as sharp turn from Ashwin produced a sharp chance for the leg slip. Yuvraj stayed low and caught it cleanly to send Styris back in the 23rd over.
