Sankranthi Bhogi date in 2011 :Bhogi is the first day of four-day Sankranthi festival in Andhra Pradesh. Bhogi 2011 date is January 14. In 2011, Bhogi is celebrated on Pushya Shukla Dashami or Dhanurmasa Dasami. Bhogi Mantalu or the sacred bonfire is burned during Bhogi to burn or destroy our sins and darkness in life. Bhogi is the common festival in Andhra Pradesh during Sankranthi and Pongal in Tamil Nadu. Another major ritual during Bhogi festival is Bhogi Pandlu (Bhogi Pallu). Bhogi Pallu is a mixture of fruits, pieces of sugarcane, rice and some other grains. This mixture is showered on children by elders during Bhogi day. It is the most celebrated event on the festival of Bhogi and Sankranthi.

Bhogi is the first day of Sankranthi festival in Andhra Pradesh which is celebrated in honour of Lord Indra. People draw Rangoli designs or Sankranthi Muggulu or Kolam on the occasion of Bhogi inviting Sankranti Lakshmi into their houses.

Makar Sankranthi date in 2011
Sankranti, also known as Makar Sankranthi, marks the Suns transit into Makara Rashi. Sankranti 2011 date is January 15, Saturday.

Bhogi marks the beginning of Sankranti festival. Sacred bonfire is the main ritual during Bhogi. This ritual is called as ‘Bhogi Mantalu in Andhra Pradesh. Kite flying, Rangoli designs (Pookalam, kolam or muggulu), Gobbemma, Gangireddu and haridasu are the main aspects of Sankranthi festival. Kanuma, third day during Sankranti festival, is associated with the legend of lifting of Govardhan Giri by Lord krishna. Mukkanuma, the final day of Sankranti festival, is celebrated to worship cattle.

Pongal is a season of Rangoli (Muggulu). Women enthusistically perform the Rangoli thing. Even they participate in Rangoli competitions. Rangoli is known as Muggu in Telugu and Kolam in Tamil.
