......Nadunisi naigal review | nadunisi naaygal review | nadunisi naaygal tamil movie review

Kindly note: Before starting the review * This is once such movie which you can see 50% who agrees with the movie and 50% against the movie, this movie is one step ahead I expect a lot of negative reviews on this movie, and very few positive also. Because fans of this kind of movie are very less, and limited. And this happens for this review also – I am expecting 75% who don’t agree with me and a 25% who agrees with me.

My theater Experience: I looked around – majority was sitting as if they are forced to do so, and a few was watching the movie very carefully.  There is a huge difference between the two groups, one group just hate this and second one is going to appreciate this.

A different genre movie from Gautham Menon. A psycho thriller that happens in a night. It is weird and shows the odd side of an individual. The film moves at a speedy tempo thanks to the running time which less than 2 hours. The movie comes in the list of Psycho, The Leopard Man, Shadow of a doubt, Frenzy, Se7en, The Silence of the Lambs etc.. about psychopath-serial killing on screen.

Warning: This is not a usual Gautham Menon kind of romantic or police film mixed with sweet songs. This movie is for those who want to see a different try from a very talented maker. The main thread of Nadunisi Naayga is similar to Bharathiraja’s classic Sigappu Rojakkal (1978). And more relation with the Kamal Haasan’s ‘Sigappu Rojakkal’. Both the movie’s Telugu version was and is named same ‘Erra Gulabee’.

Backdrop: Samar, age eight. After his mother passed away, his father starts to arrange orgy at his house, and Samar was once strained by his father for the sexual activities. The good mannered neighbor Meenakshi finds something unusual and reports to police. Samar’s father commit suicide and Meenakshi adopts Samar after his father commits suicide. But the hunted disturbed character creates a world of his own, another character grows with in him. This is the backdrop of the movie, revealing the incidents and any more part won’t be good so rest to be enjoyed in theater.

Gautham Menon is shining bright, the presentation is very different, look more deeply its evident how deeply he had concentrated on scenes. There are few Gautham’s touch, which shows his preparation before the shooting. Eg: a girl in jeans with a very traditional name. The images, scenes shows that he never tried to compromise in showing the brutality or the mental boldness of the psychopath, and also never dramatized in showing ‘a chance’ for a psychopath to born. Dialogues are deliberate.
Salute to Gautham Menon for selecting themes, backdrops which are very rare in Indian film such as the child sexual cruelty. As of now, I can remember only one movie with such a scene ie Selvaraghavan’s ‘Kadhal Kondean’.

Performances of the lead actors are extremely pleasing. Veera as the psycho with multiple personality pass the first exam well, thanks to the very well written character. Meenakshi who plays Meenakshi is the key performer. Sameera as the scared and weak girl Sukanya is apt.

As usual for a Gautham Menon product, the film is technically very stylish. The entire accolade goes to Manoj Paramahamsa, his camera work is overwhelming. It should be the best because most of the incidents happen in the dark.

Music: How many movies have you watched without music? How many thriller/horror movies is there in the world without any special effect sounds to scare? The rerecording is top class, there is no background music and you will never feel the miss. You will have the feeling as if there is music around to scare you.
Camera movement, music less and the editing make the viewer's tensed endlessly for one and half hours.

Minus: The film is not for everybody; Gautham is going to get a lot of appreciation and also hell a lot of negative reviews on this movie equally. As said before, the movie is made for multiplex audiences, who are used to this kind of movies through Hollywood/Chinese or Korean movies. The shots, camera movement and presentation have classic Hollywood touch. And more than anything else the film is not for the family audiences.

As a product - there is few loose ends as like most of the same genre movies in any industry / language.

Overall: The movie is very engaging for the fans of this genre and might be boring for others. For the fans the movie gets revolting with each and every scene consistently with each dialogues and incidents. Gautham Menon has tried out a completely different movie and had given a very different experience for the viewers. This is a must watch for the fans of similar genre, this is as good as it can be.

It seems that this is the time for serial killers in Tamil Cinema Industry it was Mysskin with ‘Yudham Sei’ and now it’s Gautham.

Box office prediction: Even before the release Gautham Menon had said in a media meet that this movie is for multiplex viewers and he said well. The collection of this movie is completely depending on the reception of the movie in major cities like Chennai, Hyderabad, Coimbatore, Bangalore etc.

I am well impressed and I appreciate Gautham Menon for his desperate try to create a whole new style of film making in Indian cinema, all I have to say is that he is succeeded.

Introducing a different style of film making Rating: 75%
