It’s rare in Tamil cinemas right from the beginning where multi stars join together in a film alike Bollywood but Mani Ratnam is exceptional for his films mostly has multi stars contribute together and in the line up ‘Ilaiya Thalapathi’ joins with Sathyaraj and Arya for Mani Ratnam’s up coming film Ponniyin Selvan’ based on the Novel written by Kalki Krishnamurthy.
Usually Mani Ratnam films which deals real life or myth stories for instance Agni Natchathiram, Nayagan, Iruvar, Guru etc.., all are real life stories and Mani Ratnam made superstar Rajini Kanth & Mammootty starrer film ‘Thalapathi’ from the lead of Mahabharatam and ‘Chiyan’ Vikram, Aishwarya Rai starrer film Raavana from the lead of Ramayanam and now ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ the literary work of Kalki is long term ambition of Mani Ratnam to make it as film.
Ponniyin Selvan script was actually desired to be filmed by the Veteran, Superstar cum former Chief Minister MGR before decades together back but later it was dropped after that Kamal Haasan name related with the ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ script but its also not came to the true.
But finally its Mani Ratnam succeeded in bring out the script as film in which Ilaiya Thalapathi Vijay as ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ with the stars Sathyaraj, Arya & Mahesh Babu, the male leads all have been decided but female lead is not yet decided, Mani Ratnam is at severe hunt for lead actress who will suit perfect for this historical importance film ‘Ponniyin Selvan’.
