OBUL REDDY MURDER | OBUL REDDY DEAD VIDEOS | ANANTAPUR DEATH
Paritala Ravi’s introduction into violent factionalism began at the age of 17 with the murder of his Communist father Paritala Sriramulu in 1975. He had donated most of his land to the poor and landless and fought for their rights when two other landlords — Gangula Narayana Reddy and S Chenna Reddy — started occupying lands in Venkatapuram village, Anantapur district.Sriramulu joined the former CPI(ML) party in 1971 and rose to become a top leader of the Naxalite movement. The land struggle soon turned into a vendetta and caste war when he was killed on May 29, 1975 by his own follower who was allegedly hired by Gangula Reddy and Chenna Reddy. Srihari, Paritala Ravi’s younger brother, also joined the Naxalites in 1979 but was shot dead by the police in November 1982.
“At that time, S Chenna Reddy and his two sons Ramana Reddy and Obul Reddy were a terror in the area too. They were joined by Surya Narayana Reddy, son of Gangula Narayana Reddy. The two Reddy gangs killed several followers and friends of Paritala Ravi’s family. In 1991, S Channa Reddy was killed by Naxalites, who raided his house wearing police uniforms,” says a police officer who served as SP Anantapur.
After the PWG expelled its founder Kondapalli Sitaramaiah, several splinter groups were formed, one of which was the Re-organising Committee (ROC) to which Paritala Ravi attached himself. The ROC then went about abducting and killing henchmen, friends and relatives of Obul Reddy and Surya Narayana Reddy.
In 1993, Paritala Ravi allegedly recruited a television repairman to plant a bomb in Surya Narayana Reddy’s TV set, which was brought to his shop for repair. The bomb exploded when it was switched on in the house of Surya Narayana Reddy, killing his mother and three siblings.
That year, Paritala Ravi won the Penukonda seat on a TDP ticket against Ramana Reddy and went on to become labour minister in NTR’s government. He remained in NTR’s group when N Chandrababu Naidu staged a coup but joined him after NTR’s death and again won from Penukonda in 1996.
All this while, the revenge killings did not stop. In 1996, Paritala Ravi’s ROC members slit the throat of Obul Reddy in a hotel at Hyderabad. The killings inspired Surya Narayana Reddy, alias Soori, to take revenge on Paritala Ravi. He allegedly triggered a remote-controlled car bomb kept outside D Rama Naidu Studio just when Paritala Ravi and actor Mohan Babu—who was supposed to start in Sriramuliah, a film based on Paritala Ravi’s father — were passing by in a car. It was a providential escape for Ravi, as a car carrying a TV channel crew had just overtaken them and took the full impact of the blast.
Soori was arrested and at least four others involved in the car-bomb attack were hunted down and killed, allegedly by members of the ROC. Finally, Ramana Reddy, former MLA and brother of Obul Reddy, was killed in 1999 in a house in Banjara Hills.
